Thought Provoking Thursday: All Work and No Play

For the last few weeks, I've been working every waking hour of my day.  I get up and try to read my email, catch up on Facebook, I try to read other people's blogs, but can honestly say I haven't been very good at it lately.  So sorry fellow bloggers, I'll try harder.

Then I go to the day job.

Then I come home and work in my hard when the weather allows, write, work on marketing for myself and The Class of 2K11.

Then there's my side book trailer business.

And of course I have Thing One and Thing Two who have to be driven every which way, cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking exercise. I've been trying to get up early so I can get all my computer stuff and my blog in before work.

It may not sound like much, but it's all very time consuming.  And exhausting.

I need to learn some balance.  I try, but I'm still not very good at it.

Anyone have any pointers?

  1. Sounds like a huge amount to me! I'm so happy to be paired with you on this crazy, fabulous journey.

Last night I took some time to unwind with STUPID FAST. It's really amazing.

  2. I am so happy to be on this journey with you too. I hope we get to meet for realsies some day. I NEED to buy Stupid Fast. Just got Memento Nora and Illegal in the mail, and I have The Year We Were Famous on my shelf. Already read XVI and Lipstick Laws, which I loved. So many books... I better find out which ones are already out and order.

  3. It's crazy, isn't it? I'm also a mom and an editor as well as a writer, and trying to carve out a little writing time sometimes feels impossible.

Plus all the marketing.... Oh my!

  4. yeah, it's insane. And I cannot wake up in the morning if I stay up late. And I'm exhausted by the end of the day anyway.

  5. Erm... blog at work? *shifty* Seriously, though, maybe try to schedule SOME of those endeavors for every other day. I find myself fairly overwhelmed too--nearly no down time. I keep hoping at some point the writing income will mean I can work less and then will have a better balance.

  6. Gotta write that best-seller first, get rich, then sit back and write what you really enjoy. Sound easy? Nah... I'm reading you from Buenos Aires, I'm a poor poet and tho' I have a published collection only coins rattle into my kitchen tin. Anyway, I found you and like this er..crazy meeting place! My blogspot's in Spanish, mostly, but you'll find lots of stuff in English on the right side column. Best! And take it easy...

  7. Hart, I know what you're saying. I tried to catch up on most the regular blogs I read today after weeks. ack!! I don't want people to think I don't love them.

And Sylvia!! Thanks for reading from way over in Buenos Aires. I'm glad you found me however, I'm afraid I won't understand a word of your blog. :)

  10. I definitely understand what you are saying since I also lived in BA and I can tell you that life there is really fast-paced, like in any other city. I had rented one of the furnished apartments in buenos aires offered which was located near my day job, that saved me a lot of time since moving around the city in the public transport can be hard. There you have a pointer, try to do all your activities in places that are close to each other since travelling can consumsome time!
