Thursday Theme Day

Soccer (or futbol if you're anywhere but in America).

From now to January, my family lives, loves, and breathes soccer.  It's only natural it would end up in my novels.

Someone is always a soccer player, be them a main character, or an aside.

In Never Eighteen, Austin was a soccer player until his illness made him too sick to play.

Any other themes seem to land in your novels every time you sit down to write?

  1. I find that romantic relationships often form the cornerstone of my novels, whether expressed more directly (like the forthcoming Just Cause books, which center more or less around the love story between two superheroes) or obliquely (like the romantic tension between characters in Pariah's Moon).

Also, music seems to be a recurring theme, with songs and bands playing a role at some level. In my current WIP, I've embraced that completely, and it's called The Guitarist.

  2. For those of you who don't know Ian, he's super funny and has a superhero series coming out, which he mentions above. Check him out.

  3. I'm the same way with baseball. I haven't written many full books, but the ones I have even started all feature baseball in some way.
