I've decided again to try my hand at NaNoWriMo again. This will be my 7th year. I've only "won" two times. The pattern appears to be the lack of time since being divorced. I've been close. I think I got up to 30k one year, but I decided to put that book aside when I found out fairy tale retellings were all the rage (which seemed to happen while I was writing that one).
I'm pretty determined this year. I've not finished a book for a while (and by a while I mean 3 or so years, I mean, I haven't even written a blog in two months). I would like to get one completed project under my belt. Maybe that will get me more motivated to write more.
I've also decided to sway from Young Adult and write a women's lit novel. It's kind of about a middle aged woman struggling to find where she fits in the world while battling severe depression. So, not really a far stretch from what I normally write, but I think it will be fun to be a little more free with my words.
So far I have just over 3,600 words.

Where has the week gone? Have I blogged once this week? I really couldn't say, I've barely known what day it was all week. It's been crazy...
The day job has been so busy. We have some big changes in the making, so I've been putting together a marking blitz to publicize them, which will come out next week. On top of that, I had two marketing events Martini Monday and Legal Marketing Winter Social and Awards Night.
I enjoy my day job, but, Oy, it's been crazy busy lately.
I've been doing a little writing. I've been working on A Tattered Life, and I started a new WIP. I know, I'm crazy. It's women's fiction. Humorous. Well, I hope it is at least. I've been wanting to write the book for about 3 years. When I was on my vacation...wait...have I already told you this story? Anyway, when I was on vacation, I was lying in bed one morning and specific sentences came to mind. So I started writing it. Stupid, I know. But stupid is how I roll. *cough*
Of course I had to fit the BF in because I'd barely seen him.
Then there were the debates over gun control over Facebook and Twitter. Not going there now, nor am I ever going there again. Agree to disagree. Period.
House cleaning, exercise.
Thinking about marketing my book then not doing it.
I swear I'm going to this weekend. It's selling without marketing it. Imagine what it would do if I actually told people it was out there.
Anxiously awaiting the Super Bowl. GO HAWKS!!!

Book of the Week: I'm reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Such a great series. Really have enjoyed it. Just started the book a little bit ago. Hope to finish in the next couple weeks.
Netflix of the Week: Damages Season 5. I cannot believe I already almost done with this series. At least it's almost gotten me to the last half of Walking Dead Season 4.
I met Travis many moons ago when we were both contestants in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest I've talked about a million times on this blog.
He's a native Texan, a meat eater, who loves his beer. He's 6' 5", nearly 300 pounds, oh, yeah, and he writes women's fiction.
Yes, I said women's fiction.

In his own words on the profile on his blog, this is why he must write "girly stuff" *giggles*:

voice for the characters that speak to me, because they’re not going to
shut up either way, and at least on paper I can act like they exist for a

He's an interesting cat for sure and I'm writing about him because his book, Twisted Roads, is nowavailable for purchase on Amazon.

So, yes, once again I missed my blog day, but I've been busy, and here I am making it up and stuff. So on Friday's I've decided to blog about someone who has either inspired me or pissed me off to the point that they end up in my blog.
Today is inspiration and that inspiration is my friend Gae. If you read my blog, you are well acquainted with her already. But every day this woman does things that amaze me.
I met her in the 2007 ABNA (Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award) contest, and we became fast friends. We're like sisters now. Sadly, we live clear across the country from each other, but hey, in the technology age that hardly matters, right?
Gae was the first of my writer friends to land a book deal, and rightly so. The time and dedication she puts into her writing astounds. This on top of a job, two boys, a husband, etc, etc. And her writing is amazing.
But on top of all that, she is also a champion for the unpublished writer. She is constantly reading and editing manuscripts and query letters helping those still on the journey perfect them. She did this with Never Eighteen, and I know she helped make it a thousand times the book it was. I try to emulate her in this by helping people with their writing as well, but it's hard and it's time consuming (I do help a bit). So I admire her for doing this for others.
She's faced adversity, had her ups and downs, but she always comes out of it, brushes it off, and begins again. Plus, she's charming, brilliant, hilarious, and beautiful.
She is what writers, mothers, wives, and women should aspire to.
