Monday morning blahg: Just another Monday

Tired, crabby (I almost wrote crappy, they both fit), anxious.  Need a change.  Need more coffee, but I'm drinking Crystal Light.  Need a happy monkey.  Want some pineapple for some reason.

Okay, enough of that.  I  just found out my ARC's  (Advanced Reader Copies) are coming in a couple weeks.  Totally psyched about this.  Can't wait to hold one in my hand.  Turn it over a few times.  Stare at my name on the cover.

This means I have to write my dedication and acknowledgments.  I'm scared. I don't want to forget anyone.  Friendships have ended over acknowledgments.  All of a sudden I'm panicking (breathe Megan, breathe).

This is real.  It's happening.  Nothing will stop it now.

I'm pretty sure that's all I have for you today.   Thanks for reading.

F³A: First Pass Pages

I got my first pass pages yesterday and I am beside myself with excitement.  It is amazing to see your book in book form.  To the left are a few of my pages.  This may be the clincher in the reality of what is to be my novel in print.

Now I just have to find out about dedication pages, acknowledgments, yadda yadda yadda. (you have no idea how many people I have to thank for getting me here).

That's all I have for today.  Oh, except reminding you about my contest for the 200th follower and their referral.  $10 Amazon cards.  Should get you a debut novel.

Random iPod shuffle song:  It was Linkin Park.  And I thought I would remember as I left for work, but I didn't.  So I'm going to say it was Waiting for the end.

Book of the Week: Deadline by Chris Crutcher.  Just started it a couple days ago.

Movie of the week: I'm actually going to go with a TV show I've been watching on Netflix.  Dead Like Me.  Love it.

Quote of the Week: I have two this week.

"If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere."  ~Frank A. Clark

"As long as you keep getting born, it's alright to die some times."  ~Orson Scott Card
Thanks for reading.  Happy Friday.  Have a great weekend.

Thought Provoking Thursday: Work and other things that keep me from writing

Since I started work, it's been so hard to find the time to do anything let alone write.  I used to be good at the balancing act, but that was BW (before work).  Now, I'm like a crazy person running every which way, trying to multi-task but at the end of the day has accomplished nothing.

And I'm working out now.  An hour a day.  Where the hell does the time go?  And I don't even work full time.  I work five hours a day.  I get home, I try to write for a bit, but there are distractions like email, bills, facebook (*shakes fists at Mark Zuckerberg*).  Plus I blog, I have kids that need my attention, a house that needs cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping.  By brain is cheese toast by 5 pm.

So how do you do it?  How do you balance everything without plummeting to an untimely death (okay, that may be overdramatic)?  This girl needs some advice.

Writing Wednesday: Sad

Keep in mind, this is all unedited.  If any of you would like to be a guest writer on my Wednesday blog, give me a shout.  And don't forget I'm holding a contest for the 200th follower and their referral.  I'm thinking $10 Amazon gift cards (though I haven't really decided).  Maybe a pair of knee socks.

David and I decided that if we were going to be ready together, and the night was to be perfect, we’d have to plan it.
“Prom night,” David said shoveling some fries in his face at Baldy’s, our new favorite hangout.
      “That’s pretty cliché,” I said.
“No, because we’re not going to prom.”
I stopped mid fry and looked in his eyes.  “We aren’t?”
“No, prom is for the superficial and desperate.  We’re skipping it.”  He took a sip of his mega-pop than had to be at least eighty-five ounces.
“What if I don’t want to skip it?” I said, finally finishing my fry.
David gaped at me like he couldn’t comprehend what I was saying, as if I was speaking a foreign language.
     “What?”  I said.
He pointed a French fry at me and said, “What sounds better?  Wearing uncomfortable clothes and conforming to the conventional, phony social rituals of a misguided youth while listening to banal music created by mamas boys wearing guyliner whose hearts have been broken into a million pieces all while witnessing the doldrums of fake ceremonious elections for elitist snob kings and queens while everyone else’s hope and dreams are scattered all over the floor with the leftover streamers?” He took a breath.  “Or, would you rather have a romantic evening in a beautiful hotel suite with the love of your life, feeding each other chocolate covered strawberries and drinking champagne while giving completely and profoundly of yourself, and then tangling up together and falling asleep in each other’s arms?”
“Well, when you put it that way—”
“Exactly.”  He shoved the pointer fry into his mouth.

Tooting the Horn Tuesday

I got nothing.  I mean, I'm sure there are great things going on for people all over the world, but I've been too busy to keep up with them this week. SO, I'm just going to say, go check out the debut writers at the Class of 2k11.  They always have cool stuff going on, selling rights, getting deals for their sequels.  Plus, they have some really cool contests.

Speaking of contests, seriously, I'm giving a prize to my 200th follower.  So, you could spread the word, or follow if you don't already.  If they have a referral, that referral gets a prize too.  Now, it's just going to be something small and sweet, I'm a struggling writer you know.

Another group of debut writers to check out is the Apocalypsies.  These are a group of 2012 debuts (including yours truly).  Right now they have some great interviews with the Elevensies on their blog.

And  the Class of 2k12 is underway.  We're still looking for debut novelists for next year.  If you're interested, let me know.

My Dad. He's awesome.
