20 random thoughts

Random thoughts. I'm reliving conversations from last night, pondering things I've
seen browsing on Twitter and Tumblr this morning, thinking about the weekend. Granted, some of them you won't understand, just my personal inside musings.

  1. I'm starting resolutions before next year. I'm joining a gym Monday. I really need to make these changes.
  2. There had to be a taser, a billy club...some other option.
  3. Richard Sherman is funny and a class act. People don't like him because he's the best and he's loud. Well, people outside Washington. And maybe Oregon and Idaho. Maybe Montana.
  4. I'm all about women's rights, but I don't think we need to trash men to get them. We're trying to be equal, right, not superior?
  5. People that go shopping today are CRAY!
  6.  Some of these people on the Tumblr, I really don't want to see their shit.
  7. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed Facebook until I left it.
  8. Peeta and RePeeta were in a boat...
  9. Speaking of...someone told me he thought Mockingjay was boring. I asked where they left off and he said basically they just got Peeta back (who up to this point he thought was named Peter hahaha). And I was like O.o I could see that being boring because NOTHING REALLY HAPPENS until then.
  10. I need to remind my daughter for the millionth time that I am a POOR SINGLE MOM WHO CAN NOT AFFORD TO FEED ALL HER FRIENDS!
  11. I need to buy more Christmas lights.
  12. I hope the tattoo artist can get my design right.
  13. I can't wait to get on the road and get the fuck out of here.
  14. My dreams need to stop toying with me. It's hard to dream about someone you love then wake up realizing they're not a part of your life anymore.
  15. Always ask someone if they want some pie before you eat the whole thing. Even if you were told to take it home and eat the whole thing.
  16. Do I really need to Tumblr when I Blogger?
  17. THERE IS ONLY ONE FUCKING PIE AND IT'S BANANA CREAM!
  18. NaNoWriMo - okay, so I may not finish, but I got a lot accomplished, which is more than I can say for the last two years.
  19. There are 4 kinds of people in your life:
    1. the ones who give, never expecting anything in return
    2. the ones in which you have a give and take relationship and that's okay
    3. the ones that take and never give
    4. and the ones you just want to punch in the face
  20. My dad is awesome.

F³A: Roiling angst and where the day takes me

My angst is at its apogee (this is me and my new goal of using a new lesser used word every day).  It's the time of year, not only because of the season, but for personal reasons both from the way back machine and present day Tacoma, which I'm not going to bore you with at the moment.

I told today I was going to kick its ass, it's not going to go down without a fight.  Number one, thank god for LOL Cats.  Number two, do not look up "bad day" on Google images because lots of icky gross stuff comes up.

Anyhoo.  I said, "Hey, Day, bring it on.  Give me your worst!"

Day said, "Okay first of all, I'll let you have your coffee and do your stupid computer stuffs.  But after that, your ass is mine.  And you're lucky I'm letting you slide on the promise to get on the elliptical today."

Me: "Okay, fine, then what?"

Day: "Hmmm, what to throw at you first.  How about the kitchen."

Me: "Pfft.  Piece of cake."

Day: "Maybe I'll let you pick up your girls today, but then there's groceries, and perhaps some gift delivery."

Me: "Is that all you got?"

Day: "Cookies."

Me: "That may be work to you, but I call that fun."

Day: "Well, then I'll have you catch up on the laundry, wash, dry, fold, AND put away.  You have guests coming on Christmas you know."

Me: "Shit.  Shit.  Okay.  Okay.  I can do this.  Next?"

Day: "You sure you're ready for what comes next?"

I close my eyes, start jumping around, breathe in and out, shake it off like a boxer.  "Okay, yeah, I'm ready...wait.  No.  Yes."  My body calms, I get in my best I-can-take-it-stance.

Day: "Your office."

my office

I almost collapse, but I maintain my cool  I don't want the day to know that its, in a single two words, almost beat me.

Me: "You're on.  I'm kicking your ass Day.  You can't stop me."

Day: "I'm not worried.   I've always got tomorrow."

Okay, time for the Friday Scribbles:

Christmas Song of the Week: Jingle Bells by Sammy Davis Jr.  No one sings it like him.

Book of the Week: Still on Just Cause by my friend Ian Healy.  Christmas has taken away my ability to read in a timely manner, but hopefully will finish next week.

Christmas Movie of the Week: Going with The Family Stone.  I love it.  Luke Wilson is so cute and funny in it.  And I love Rachel McAdams in it too.

Quote of the Week: "As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December's bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same." ~Donald Westlake

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanzaa.  If you don't celebrate a holiday, celebrate you.

F³A: The Crazies

These are the people that go out shopping at the butt crack of dawn on black Friday.  I've never done it, I have no desire to do it, I will never do it.  I am claustrophobic, I hate crowds.  Especially mean crowds that will shiv you for the last Sims game or pair of gloves left on the shelf.  No thanks.

For those of you who do shop the black Friday deals, is it really all that?  Really?

There was an incident with pepper spray today.  Really?

I will pay more.  I will sit comfortably at my computer and order (though I really am going to try to buy more locally this year, I'm sure my local stores have website too, right?)

For those of you who risk your lives on black Friday, happy shopping, for those of you who don't happy hiding.

Friday Scribbles:

Christmas Song of the Week: Please Come Home for Christmas.  One of my faves.

Book of the Week: I'm going with The Wicked and the Just by J Anderson Coats, a fellow 2k12er.  I received an arc and am going to start it this weekend.  Think Castles, medieval battles.

Netflix of the Week: Jericho, the tv series.  A friend turned me on to it.  It's good.

Quote of the Week: "Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice."  ~Dave Barry

Monday Morning Blahg: Much Needed Rest

I'm enjoying my vacation to Scotsdale, AZ.  My mom, my girls, and I have been shopping, sunning, swimming, and that's it. (Well I have done a bit of writing too)  This was a much needed vacation.

My ARC's are supposed to come out today, so if you requested to be on my list, I hope you get one. (I cannot WAIT to see them)

The Write Hope Auction is still going on to raise money for Japan.  They are offering signed books, critiques, and they even have a mystery item up for bid today.  Check it out.  It's for a good cause.

I think that's all I have for today.  Not much to rant and rave about on vacation.  Have a good Monday all.

Top Four Worst Jobs I've Ever Had: # 1 Shoe sales

I was desperate for work. I was nineteen and my plans to go back to school had changed. I tried to keep my job in the Safeway deli, but I came in one day and hadn't been included on the schedule. So, I had to find work elsewhere. There was a new mall opening, so I went out and picked up as many applications as I could.

I got a call for The Shoe Pavillion. I started work immediately. The mall wasn't open yet, so the first two weeks we were pricing and stocking shoes, and they trained us how to sell shoes. Pretty much they told us to follow a shopper around endlessly, ask if you could get them anything, and keep following them around. This advice came from the store managers and the owner himself.

So when the store finally opened I did what I was told. One lady asked me if I had to keep following her around. I wanted to say yes, but backed off, as you know, sales nor people really being my forte in the first place.

Then one day, the owners wife came into the store, oh was she a bitch. She said, "I don't think you should be following people around like that." She had this crazy accent, I don't even know where they were from. Maybe somewhere close to Turkey, who knows.

I felt like saying, "I'm just doing what YOUR husband TOLD me to do!!!"

You've got your managers telling you to do one thing, your customers hating it, the boss' wife coming in making demands, and people that try on 500 pairs of shoes and don't buy anything.

After a couple weeks went by, they realized they had too many staff and laid off the lowest man on the totem pole. Me. Needless to say, I was relieved. I will never work in shoes again. Ever.

My Dad. He's awesome.
